On behalf of the Trustees and musicians of the Festival, it is my privilege to welcome you to our 45th anniversary season. I thoroughly enjoyed my first season as the Music Director last summer, and I am truly grateful to everyone who helped me to achieve a smooth transition and a successful season. Also, it was a pure joy working with our fabulous musicians.
To celebrate our 45th anniversary, we have named the entire season “Quintets and More,” featuring one extraordinary quintet at each concert: Mozart Horn Quintet, Schumann Piano Quintet, Shostakovich Piano Quintet, Schubert String Quintet, and Beethoven Piano Wind Quintet. Of course, there will be much more besides these quintets, such as Tchaikovsky String Sextet (Souvenir de Florence), Poulenc Sextet for Piano and Winds, Gershwin Rhapsody in Blue, Bach Trio Sonata from The Musical Offering, Fauré Piano Quartet in C Minor, and Brahms Clarinet Trio, to name a few. There will be no shortage of superlative adjectives to describe our anniversary season.
We will also introduce wonderful works by two very important composers of our time. John Harbison’s and Arvo Pärt’s compositions are written in homage to Schubert and Mozart, respectively, and I know how much our audience will enjoy these wonderful pieces as well as their intimate connections to Schubert and Mozart. In addition, you will be happy to know that our long-time artists will return along with some new and exciting faces. I promise you that our 45th season will be a memorable one!
Also we will continue with our community programs this summer: Healing through Music, designed to bring beautiful music to nearby medical facilities for patients, staff and volunteers, and Discover the Joy of Classical Music, an hour-long fun and informative free family concert in an intimate setting at St. Peter’s Church in Bridgton. We also look forward to our annual repeat performance in Chebeague Island. Not only are we committed to bringing world-class concerts to our audience, we are committed to reaching diverse age groups in our community with the vitality of live music.
I am truly grateful to our sponsors, donors, and volunteers for their support and also value and appreciate our audience members who fill the hall to welcome our performers with such warmth and openness. As a performer, I know how important and fulfilling it is to feel that energy and connection with the audience.
Finally, please continue to check our website for more information, including artists’ full bios and also how to donate to the Festival. Please spread the word and introduce the SLLMF to your friends.
I look forward to seeing you this summer!
