Welcome to our 48th season! A heartfelt thanks to our devoted sponsors, donors, loyal audience members, advertisers, Trustees, and volunteers who made last season so memorable and successful. The process of putting together a season of magnificent music for you has been a real joy and challenge for me. As always, I am delighted to present masterworks in each program by Beethoven, Brahms, Dvorak, and Elgar, Mendelssohn and Stravinsky, combined with many superb but lesser known works by Vivaldi, Haydn, and De Beriot.
We will be introducing extraordinary works by three important women composers of the Romantic period – Amy Beach, Luise Farrenc and Clara Schumann, all renowned during their lifetime. This year marks Clara Schumann’s 200th anniversary, so it is a wonderful way to feature her most notable chamber work, the Piano Trio. In addition, we will be introducing classical guitar in chamber music for the first time to our festival audience, performing the delightful Boccherini Quintet for guitar and strings. We have a truly remarkable season coming up, and I hope you plan to come to all five concerts.
You will be happy to know that most of our longtime artists will be returning, along with several fantastic performers making their first appearances with the Festival – clarinetist Romie de Guise-Langlois, violinist Amy Schroeder, violists Jonathan Bagg and Matthew Sinno, and guitarist Oren Fader. In addition, we welcome back Flutist Laura Gilbert and bassist Volkan Orhon after some years of hiatus. Also, we will partner with a fabulous festival in New Hampshire, Electric Earth Concert, performing in Peterborough, as well as continuing our partnership with Chestnut Hill Concerts in Old Saybrook, Connecticut.
This summer we will continue to expand our community outreach programs: Healing through Music (designed to bring beautiful music to patients, staff and volunteers in nearby medical and senior facilities in Bridgton, South Paris, Norway, Auburn and Falmouth) and Discover the Joy of Classical Music (an hour-long free concert for families held in intimate venues in Bridgton, Waterford, Auburn and Falmouth). We also look forward to our annual repeat performance in Chebeague Island, and our partnership with the Bridgton Historic Society at historic farmstead Temperance Barn at Narramissic in South Bridgton.
Not only will we continue to bring world-class concerts to our audience, we are committed to enriching the lives of everyone within our community with the vitality of live music. And for the artists who have performed at the Festival, a crucial part of their experience has been the chance to share their talent and commitment with our devoted audience and with this wonderful musical community.
We urge you to continue to check our website for more details, such as full bios of the artists as well as information on how to donate to the Festival. We invite you to “like” us on Facebook and ask you to spread the word about the Festival to your friends. Please note that by purchasing a season ticket (for all five concerts), you will receive many benefits, including a savings on tickets, invitations to open rehearsals, post-concert receptions to meet-and-greet the musicians, and a vintage CD from past concert performances.
I look forward to seeing you this summer!
